Install Guide - Debian 12

A step-by-step walkthrough of a standard Debian 12 install prepared for ggRock.

1. 1Boot To The Installation Media

   Boot your server from the USB drive containing the Debian 12 installer.

   

2. 2Don't scan more media

   Choose "No" and click the "Continue" button.

   

3. 3Language Selection

   Choose "United States" and click the "Continue" button.

   

4. 4Mirror Selection

   Choose "deb.debian.org" or the closest mirror to you and click the "Continue" button.

   

5. 5Proxy Configuration

   Leave the "HTTP proxy information" field blank and click the "Continue" button.

   

6. 6Package Manager Configuration

   Wait while the apt package manager is configured.

   

7. 7Select and install software

   Wait while the select and install software wizard completes.

   

8. 8Popularity Contest

   Make a selection regarding package usage survey participation, then click the "Continue" button.

   

9. 9Deselect "Debian desktop environment"

   

10. 10Deselect "GNOME"

    

11. 11Select "SSH server"

    

12. 12Software Selection Review

    The only software installed should be the "SSH server" and "standard system utilities". Click the "Continue" button.

    Wait while the requested software is installed.

    

14. 14GRUB Installation

    Wait while the GRUB bootloader is installed.

    

15. 15Installation Continues

    Wait while installation is finished.

    

16. 16Installation Complete

    Click the "Continue" button to reboot into the new operating system.

    

17. 17GRUB Bootloader

    Press <ENTER> or wait a few seconds to choose default of "Debian GNU/Linux".
